Welcome To Options

Year 10 is important to you as it marks the start of your examination courses. For the first time you will choose some of the subjects you will study with the guidance of your teachers.

The curriculum has been designed to ensure that there is a way forward for all of you. There are a great variety of talents; some are more abstract and ‘bookish’ while others involve the ability to organise, get on with people, work in a team, solve problems, provide leadership and be responsible for your own learning and so on. They are all highly regarded.

We are all different and we all have our strengths and weaknesses. What is required of you, the student, is a willingness to work hard. You are all capable of success and we will be expecting you to succeed. It is a time for you to start thinking about what you want to do with your life

Choosing the right options is a serious matter. A careful mix of linguistic, academic, scientific and creative subjects at GCSE will ensure that a wide range of A Levels, Higher Education or vocational courses remain open to the learners.

There is tremendous competition for places in higher and further education these days. Colleges, universities and employers are looking for pupils who attend school regularly and work to the best of their ability.

If a learner thinks that they know what they want to do in the future they will need to check any special requirements for that career. Be warned that plans may change as we mature, so it is always advisable to take a balanced set of subjects.

Decisions a learner make now can open up career choices or limit your whole life. It is therefore very important to know your own mind and not be led by what friends are doing.
