Thank you for visiting our website. It is my pleasure to introduce our school to you.

Sarah Hopkins

Blessed Carlo Acutis Catholic School is a 3-16 Catholic school situated in Merthyr Tydfil serving the children of the borough from 3 years old up to aged 11 in the primary campuses, and the Heads of the Valleys region from 11 -16 in the secondary campus.  The school was established on the 1st September 2022 as the result of the merger of St Aloysius, St Illtyd’s, St Mary’s Primary Schools and Bishop Hedley High school in Merthyr Tydfil.

Our aim is to give all students the very best start in life by providing them with an outstanding education. We seek to achieve this by ensuring each child in our care

  • reaches their full potential academically;
  • develops a broad set of skills that enables them to be successful in our ever-changing world; and
  • understands a sense of morality, guided by the gospel values of love; acceptance; responsibility; and forgiveness.

These aims are delivered through a commitment to providing the highest quality learning experiences, a strong pastoral system and an extensive range of pupil experiences which will support classroom learning.

Our schools are very special places, places where children experience real care and support and it is this ethos that will continue be at the heart of everything that we will do. I feel extremely blessed to have been appointed to lead this really exciting but obviously anxious time for all families across the Heads of the Valleys wishing a Catholic education for their children. All of our schools are welcoming and nurturing places with amazing children and dedicated staff who work tirelessly to achieve the best possible outcomes for all. I feel both humbled and privileged to be appointed to bring these communities together as one school, in an environment that is fitting for our children.

Standards at our individual campuses have continued to improve over the years, and my vision is that our new 3-16 Catholic School will continue in this trend, with an ambition to be the best school in Wales, meeting the needs of all in our community. Should you visit, you will see that our students are happy, hard-working and incredibly positive about their time at school. They are a genuine asset to our community and visitors regularly comment on how friendly, polite and articulate they are. They want to receive the best possible experiences at school to become successful. In addition to our wonderful students, we believe we have some of the finest teachers and support staff in the country who help inspire, motivate and challenge our students to become the ‘best versions of themselves’.

It is my belief that children have 'one chance' at education and they deserve the very best.  At Blessed Carlo Acutis Catholic School, we see it as our role to ensure we provide them with this. We set the highest expectations of and for our students and we leave no stone unturned in our pursuit of excellence in all areas of our work. We are committed to continuous school improvement and place great importance in working together in partnership with parents so that each student receives the best possible educational experience.

Faith is at the heart of our school, Christ told his disciples that not everything is possible for man, but “all things are possible with God”, with the power of prayer, hard work and Christ at our centre we can achieve this ambition together.

I hope this website gives you a flavour of our school. Educating children is a great responsibility and an immense privilege. If you are a parent of a student already at the school, thank you for entrusting us with that job. If you are considering sending your child to Blessed Carlo Acutis Catholic School or would like to find out more do get in touch.
